Seafarer – Coming home

The Seafarers House stands on a jetty along the coast of the Wadden Sea. Every day the Seafarer arrives at his home harbour.

Boerstra built a catamaran and sailed it from his studio in Groningen to the Seafarers House on the island of Terschelling. From the tower you witnessed the repeating scene of the ship coming home.
The movie Seafarer below was developed in 10 days during the Oerolfestival and featured for an audience inside the Seafarers House.

Memory and technique

The catamaran Seafarer was built in response to a childhood memory of a sailor who spent the winter with his own built catamaran on Terschelling.
The technique of the independent moving hulls is inspired by the Polynesians and the sixties pioneer James Wharram. (https://www.wharram.com/)
