Landscape (oil on canvas) 1987 – Aeroplane and changed date (tipp-ex) added in 1990.

Boerstra starts to paint in his adolescent years. A friend’s father is a professional landscape painter and teaches him to work with oil paint. Within a few weeks he is able to paint romantic landscapes. Applying for admission to the art academy he is told that this type of painting is not art. Quite disappointed he goes home, but he is nevertheless accepted at the academy.

Studying art, Boerstra confronts his fellow students with the landscape painting above, having added the aeroplane and the changed date. It becomes a fine discussion piece in a mixture of traditional and modern art education.
