Arjen Boerstra bouwt installaties, die worden gecombineerd met performances.
Persoonlijke herinneringen, geschiedenis en een spel met zijn eigen identiteit zijn uitgangspunten voor zijn werk. Hij zoekt naar manieren om de wereld te (her)ontdekken. De zoektocht vertaalt zich in projecten waarin het kijken vanuit bijzondere standpunten de drager is. Hij doet dit vaak met behulp van video- en fotocamera's.

In het begin van zijn kunstenaarschap reconstrueert Boerstra de zolderkamer uit zijn ouderlijk huis. De kamer wordt een mentale plek, die mogelijkheden biedt voor autobiografische vertrekpunten. Later transformeert hij zichzelf in verschillende personages met een eigen specifieke perceptie.

Personal memory, history and a game with identity are starting-points for his work. He explores different ways to (re)discover the world. In his projects he uses video- and photocamera's to look from uncommon points of view.

At the start of his career he reconstructs the attic room he had in the house of his parents. The room becomes a mental place providing freedom to work with autobiographical motives. After this Boerstra often transforms into different characters with their own specific perception.
